Tracy Riggs made a name for herself as a celebrity award-winning hairstylist and trendsetter in the city of Philadelphia.

Her professional portfolio ranges from tv, music videos, movies, editorial photo shoots, runway fashion shows, and international platform work. Her signature “True You” blow out on natural hair has been turning heads on celebrity and entertainers for over 20 years. 

We are proud to have Tracy Riggs as our master stylist and texture hair expert to give us hair tips for textured hair. We sat down with Tracy to get her to look at what motivates her creativity and the state of the new “natural hair” movement.

B: How long have you worked on natural hair? What inspired you to start doing hair?

T: I have been working with natural hair for the last 20+ years. I started a career in hairdressing because it was something I enjoyed as a teenager and by the time I graduated high school, I was a single mother of a 1-year-old so college wasn’t an option for me.

B: What do you enjoy most about natural hair?

T: I love how beautiful natural hair is. The natural shine on natural hair is amazing and the look my African American clients have on their faces when I face them in the mirror is priceless!

B: What is the one tip you would give to anyone with naturally textured hair?

T: First decide what kind of natural hairstyle you’re going to wear. Are you going to blow your natural hair out more than you wear it naturally curly or vice versa, that way you and your stylist can come up with a natural hair care plan specific to your hair’s needs.

B: What is your take on the new “Natural Hair” Movement?

T: Well, I grew up in Philadelphia and natural hair was not only a way to wear your hair but was also a consciousness that you had and a positive presence your aura projected. Conscious decisions about the music you listen to the energy you put out in the universe the foods you ate and the respect you gave your” brothas “and “sistas”.
